CU Ventures is actively seeking investment opportunities to present to the Concordia Angel Network (CAN). If you have a promising idea that fits our criteria and are looking to pitch, consider applying.
Investment criteria
- U.S.-based startups seeking angel or seed funding
- Strong management team with demonstrated knowledge of their industry
- Clear evidence of integrity and ethics within business practices
- Management or founder connections to Concordia (through alumni, current students, or professional relationships), or a company consistent with our mission
- Innovative ideas with potential to influence current or new markets
- Startups with a strong competitive advantage and solid exit potential based on comparables
Process for vetting companies
- First and foremost, the CAN selects companies that align with ethical standards of Concordia in line with our mission, and have synergy with, or connection to, the University
- Companies are next vetted by assessing legitimacy of the organization (i.e., evidence of valid incorporation and going concern), ideally with some traction for the business model (e.g. revenue or customer interest)
- Amount of funding request is also assessed, in addition to the stage of the company, previous investments, expected runway, and budget for spending the seed funds
- Lastly, a broad market assessment is conducted to evaluate the competitive landscape, revenue and growth potential, and exit potential based on comparables
- CU Ventures regularly reviews investment opportunities and selects 2-3 companies to present for each CAN meeting
